Environmental Enrichment Ameliorates Repetitive Behaviors in a Rat Model of Autism

نویسندگان

چکیده

Adverse environmental experiences during early life are identified as potential concerns for neurodevelopmental disorders including autism spectrum disorder (ASD) with 1% prevalence among populations. Maternal separation (MS) is an animal model that widely used to study long-term behavioral abnormality. To date, a great deal of studies focused on the therapeutic role enrichment (EE) stress consequences inducing anxiety, depression, and learning deficits. However, influence sex effect autistic-like behaviors induced by maternal has not been studied. The focus current investigate deficits related ASD in female Wistar rats. Pups were separated from mothers 3 hours daily PND1 PND14. After weaning time (PND21), rats subjected until tests day. On PND42-PND50 autism-related such social interaction, stereotype behaviors, anxiety behavior, locomotion tested. results showed EE reduced rat but increased behavior (p<0.05). Social decreased (p<0.05) had no significant these abnormalities (p>0.05). demonstrates repetitive can be treated exacerbation may occur which needs more exploration.

Effects of environmental enrichment on repetitive behaviors in the BTBR T+tf/J mouse model of autism.

Lower order and higher order repetitive behaviors have been documented in the BTBR T+tf/J (BTBR) mouse strain, a mouse model that exhibits all three core behavioral domains that define autism. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of environmental enrichment for reducing repetitive behaviors in BTBR mice. Lower order behaviors were captured by assaying the time and sequenc...

Objective: The present study aimed to review the literature on non-pharmacological interventions used to treat stereotyped and repetitive behaviors by a systematic method. Methods: Two authors independently performed a search strategy on Medline/PubMed, Scopus and PsycINFO on English articles published up to April 23, 2014 with relevant search keywords. mGluR5-Antagonist Mediated Reversal of Elevated Stereotyped, Repetitive Behaviors in the VPA Model of Autism

Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are highly disabling developmental disorders with a population prevalence of 1-3%. Despite a strong genetic etiology, there are no current therapeutic options that target the core symptoms of ASD. Emerging evidence suggests that dysfunction of glutamatergic signaling, in particular through metabotropic glutamate receptor 5 (mGluR5) receptors, may contribute to ph...

Autism and exergaming: effects on repetitive behaviors and cognition

Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder that leads to impairment in social skills and delay in language development, and results in repetitive behaviors and restricted interests that impede academic and social involvement. Physical exercise has been shown to decrease repetitive behaviors in autistic children and improve cognitive function across the life-span. Exergaming combines physical and m...

Restricted and repetitive behaviors in autism spectrum disorders: a review of research in the last decade.

Restricted and repetitive behaviors (RRBs) are a core feature of autism spectrum disorders. They constitute a major barrier to learning and social adaptation, but research on their definition, cause, and capacity for change has been relatively neglected. The last decade of research has brought new measurement techniques that have improved the description of RRBs. Research has also identified di...
